On Ilkley Moor B’ah t’at

A little explanation is perhaps needed about some of our beer names. Olicana is the Roman name for the spa town of Ilkley, home to our Brewery and was used as a trademark by the original Ilkley Brewery set up in 1873.

Mary Jane and other names are taken from the Victorian song “On Ilkley Moor B’ah t’at” which has become a default anthem for Yorkshire and tells the tale of a young couple courting on Ilkley Moor. The young lady in question is called Mary Jane and whilst we don’t know the identity of the young man, he is without a hat (B’ah t’at)!
